Sweet Spot is on exhibit at ArtPrize in Grand Rapids, Michigan, from September 21st through October 9th, 2016. Created in 2016 in collaboration with Mark Daniell and a team of 84 volunteers,
Sweet Spot is an immersive string installation which creates a flickering effect, compelling the viewer to move slowly as the eye registers constantly shifting color. The motion of the viewer activates the piece as every change in perspective reveals new color harmonies. The viewer may find their own 'sweet spot' of resonating color relationships as they relate one perspective to another.
Causey and Daniell's work uses low tech means to explore movement and emotional connections conveyed through color harmonies. The installation is made of 3700 thin multicolor nylon cords hanging ceiling to floor through wood compartments. Comprised of 50 modular units, the piece can be extended up to two stories high and the footprint of the piece can be arranged to suit different exhibit spaces. There are 25 colors in the piece, including the black background. Every color is placed according to its relationship to the colors surrounding it.
